Metaphors
In writing we have been learning about Metaphors. Metaphors are a figure of speech which are given to an object/person/thing that isn't literal.
Check out our sun metaphors (and art too!). Our next step is to use these in our writing.

Spaghetti and Meatball visit Room 16
Mrs Wallis' two dogs visited us in Room 16 today and it was a blast! They had fun helping us with our learning. Check out our writing and photos.
Here are some stories some Rm 16 students wrote today:
Spaghetti and Meatball
It was a cold autumn morning at Point View School. I wandered into Room 16 and I saw Spaghetti and Meatball. I felt excited and curious. I was thinking about why they were here. I said "they're so cute!" I was as quiet as a mouse around them. I wondered if they might come to Jump Jam with us? Will they ignore the other children?
I finally got to pat them, their claws were as sharp as teeth. Spaghetti is a boy and he is as white as a snowman. Meatball is a girl and is as black as an ant. When they were playing I imagined they were in a battlefield. I was laughing "ha, ha, ha".

Spaghetti and Meatball
It was a cold autumn morning at Point View School. I wandered into Room 16 when the bell went and I saw Spaghetti and Meatball. Next the 8.45 bell went and they jumped and played together. They were play fighting. They both are so cute. Both of them like me because they licked me on the nose!

Foxes in socks - Reading
We are learning how to justify! We learnt that we all knew how to justify too.
When we justify we need to use the word ‘because’ as this helps us explain why/how. You also need to use evidence in the text.
We practised this when we were reading our book today.
Red fish - place value & subtraction
Today Red fish are working on place value up to 1000. They worked collaboratively on the activ board finding the answers!
We also were learning a new strategy in subtraction.
We also were learning a new strategy in subtraction.
If we had 16-7 we would do 16-6 =10 and 10-1= 9. This is a much simpler strategy than counting back from the largest number!

Class plays
Today Room 16 did some plays with Mrs Naus. Plays are a great way to foster learning in the classroom. They work on:
- Drama - becoming a character.
- Reading - fluency and expression.
- Self Confidence with sharing in front of the class.
They performed two plays today - check them out! I think they were amazing.

Cats and Hats - Inferring!
Today the Cats and Hats were learning about Inferring and we broke down how to do this!
Mrs Wallis gave us a receipt and we had to infer what she had for dinner. We had to use the clues in the receipt and put the clues together to come up with our answer.
Mrs Wallis gave us a receipt and we had to infer what she had for dinner. We had to use the clues in the receipt and put the clues together to come up with our answer.
We came up with a sequence of how to infer. We have to (success criteria):
- Look for the clues in the text.
- Put the clues together.
- Find the answer.
